Anyone familiar with Martha Scanlan and Jon Neufeld's unique alchemy on stage will not be surprised by the sense of being taken into the moment-their shows are in and of themselves a journey of improvisation; the way Jon Neufeld's brilliant innovative guitar playing weaves effortlessly around Martha's timeless songwriting is simply magical. While currents of deep Appalachian mountain valleys and vast Montana landscapes wind through Martha's songs, it's really the accessibility and intimacy that defines them.
Blending elements of traditional roots with contemporary indie folk, Dead Horses writes music that is both familiar and unexpected, unflinchingly honest in its portrayal of modern American life, yet optimistic in its unshakable faith in brighter days to come.

Queen Machali (Tora Woloshin), an artist who was mentored by Simon Cowell on The X Factor, is having her birthday bash and new project launch party here at The Back Room.
Her music is a fresh new blend that features tones from Jazz, R&B, Soul, Rock and Contemporary music.
Queen Machali was the Queen of Tigers. She was a Bengal from India who helped regenerate some of the tiger population. Her mother was the Queen of Queens whom Machali was named after, not to mention the most photographed tiger of all time. Machali received a Lifetime Achievement Award because of her direct involvement in tiger conservation and contributions to the growth of India's tourism industry.
Lead vocalist Tora Woloshin was mentored by Simon Cowell on The X Factor. The name 'Tora' means tiger in Japanese. Her decision to name the band 'Queen Machali' was based on several factors: the coinciding names, to honor tigers and other endangered species and eventually to save endangered species. Tora has been singing, dancing, acting and modeling since the age of 4 and has toured the world performing covers and originals. She has opened for Ne-Yo, Flo Rida, Method Man and toured the US with major artist, B.O.B. Her interests range from being a race car driver and chef to training and rescuing animals.
Tickets are $20 general admission. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available at the link below, or you may purchase your tickets at the door the night of the show. Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash only at the door (ATMs are nearby).
The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (for those 21+) space, dedicated to (mostly) acoustic music of all kinds. You are welcome to bring your own adult beverage with no additional corkage fee. If you need more information or have any questions, please call us: #510-654-3808. Thank you for your support!
