Welcome Back To A Cappella: A free event featuring 15 student acappella groups from across UC Berkeley's campus

15 student a cappella groups from across the UC Berkeley campus celebrate the start of the school year with a two-plus hour talent showcase on the Zellerbach Hall stage in a free event for, by, and with Cal Students. A semesterly event held regularly since it was founded by vocal group Noteworthy in 2009, Welcome Back to A Cappella has been a runaway success attracting capacity crowds at Hertz Hall in recent years. The performance provides an opportunity for Cal students to hear what each of the groups are like and learn how to audition for them.

Aug 30, 7pm to 9:30pm, Zellerbach Hall

Rising Star Series - Kevin Goldberg's Summer Showcase

California Jazz Conservatory - Rising Star Series - Kevin Goldberg's Summer Showcase
Back at the CJC for the third year running, Kevin Goldberg presents a musical smorgasbord that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
This year's showcase features Oakland bands Lil' Elephant and Wayfairy, as well as Kevin's brand spankin' new solo project.

Lil' Elephant:
-Adam Hughes, guitar/vocals
-Connor Lonsdale, drumset
-Edwin Rhodes, piano/vocals
-Kevin Goldberg, bass/vocals

Wayfairy (all band members sing):
-Quiver Watts, banjo/lead vocals
-Ari Cowan, fiddle
-Mega Bloom, fiddle
-Jazmine Davis, washboard
-Angel J. Rodriguez, cajon/spoons
-Vian Collapse, accordion
-Kevin Goldberg, bass

Lil' Elephant is an unconventional Oakland ensemble bringing original tunes to stages of all sizes. A labor of love several years in the making, this band of four motley miscreants fuses funk, rock, roll, rap, and classical influences into an exceptional and eclectic musical shmorgasboard. Major influences include The Doors, Funkadelic, In Flames, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. You'll find your feet tapping and your hips swaying before you know it.

Wayfairy started with a banjo on the turnpike and has grown into a six piece music project that fills the sonic space between mournful folk and riotous punk. Originally the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Quiver Watts, Wayfairy has grown into a collective project that blends accordion, banjo, violin, washboard and upright bass with soft vocal harmonies, punctuated by raw wails.

Aug 30, 8pm to 10pm, California Jazz Conservatory 2087 Addison St, Berkeley
